Spanish Discovery Case

Spanish wine is in the midst of a revolution, with new areas opening up all the time, producing exciting wines from native grapes. There is so much more to Spain than Rioja these days! This case introduces a selection of our current favourites, a mixture of new wave and classic.

Macabeo, Molino Loco, DO Yecla

A little gem from Spain's South-east. A fresh nose of green fruit, a little scent of fresh herbs and marzipan. Creamy and soft. Spanish sunshine in a glass

Rioja Blanco, El Coto

Pale yellow in colour, the wine is dry and fresh on the palate with aromas of peaches, apples, citrus and tropical fruits. The finish is fresh and fruity with hints of melon. This is a zingy, lively wine.

La Traca 'Risky Grapes', Valencia

Brilliant blend of Merseguera, Moscatel and Viognier, fruity aromas such as apricot, pineapple and floral notes. Initially bold, developing into a fruity taste which is longlasting.

Carinena, El Circo, Aragon

A modern Carinena with intense aromas of ripe red fruit such as strawberries and cherries followed by a touch of spice. On the palate, it has smooth, firm tannins with a racy acidity and a very fruity finish.

Mencia, Bierzo, Pago de Valdoneje

Mencia has been transformed from remote backwater to rising star in a few short years. This juicy wine is complex, with dark berry, cherry and raspberry aromas, soft and silkypalate, and a touch of spice. Parker rated this 92pts.

Biberius Roble, Bodegas Comenge, Ribera del Duero

A young wne from Spain's finest red region: it is very aromatic, with blackberries, strawberries and sweet spices, intense, balanced and tasty on the palate, round and easy to drink, with the sweet aromatic notes contribution by the barrels, where it has been aged for four months.
