Last week, Delilah was transported to the sun-drenched vineyards and bustling markets of Portugal as we hosted a very special Portuguese-themed evening. From the first pour of vinho verde to the final bite of cheese, our guests were treated to an unforgettable culinary and cultural experience.

A Night of Authentic Flavours

Our menu was carefully curated to showcase the rich diversity of Portuguese cuisine, highlighting both well-loved classics and exciting new discoveries. Guests indulged in an array of cheeses, charcuterie, seafood, and decadent desserts, all paired perfectly with exceptional Portuguese wines.

Some standout dishes from the evening included:

  • Hake and Lemon Canapés – Paired with Mateus Rosé, offering a light and refreshing start to the evening and a nod to some happy holidays and fizzy bubbles! 

  • Celeriac and Apple Remoulade with Deep-Fried Cheese – Served with Vinho Verde, Quinta do Azevedo, bringing a crisp contrast to the creamy dish.

  • Cod Cheek and Prawn Arroz de Tomate with Lobster Bisque and Squid Ink Tuille – A rich seafood course, beautifully complemented by Xisto.

  • Portuguese Cheeseboard with Torta de Barros and São Jorge – Paired with Prunus Red, Dão Tinto, enhancing the bold and nutty flavours of the cheeses.

  • Four Pork Tagine Cataplana – A traditional and hearty dish, matched with the deep, complex notes of Trinca Bolotas.

  • Coffee Crème Catalan with Pecan Praline and Cigarillo Biscuits – A sweet and aromatic finale, perfectly balanced with Justinho 5YO Madeira.

The Perfect Pairings

Of course, no journey through Portugal’s culinary landscape would be complete without fantastic wines. Guests sipped on:

  • Vinho Verde – Light, crisp, and refreshingly zesty.

  • Douro Reds – Deep, rich, and beautifully balanced.

  • Madeira – The perfect sweet finale to round off the evening.

A Celebration of Culture

Beyond the food and drink, the event was a true celebration of Portugal’s heritage and craftsmanship. With insights into winemaking traditions, tasting notes, and the fascinating stories behind the producers we featured, the evening was as educational as it was indulgent.
