Situated in Voegtlinhoffen near Colmar, Domaine Joseph Cattin has been making its own wines for nearly 300 years. This is a family-run estate, run by brothers Jacques and Jean-Marie, with the help of Jacques’ son (Jacques Jnr). The family’s watchwords are elegance and authenticity, and they use traditional methods for winemaking alongside new equipment for best results.
The already intense Gewurztraminer richness is increased with the skin contact in the winemaking process. Opulent and spicy with notes of lychee and ripe tropical fruits, a mouthful of wine with good length and power.
These wines are not fined so can sometimes be a little cloudy in their appearance. Close to organic, Joseph Cattin is making some outstanding wines.
Succulent, and food friendly, matching pork chicken or duck (Duck a L'Orange anyone?), but also good with asian food, or a bit of spice.
